Simple daily habits to enhance your well-being


We are so often bogged down with life and the hustle and bustle thereof that we may lose sight of what truly makes us happy. Often, we can implement these small daily habits which can transform our daily lives and permit so much more joy and meaningful days.

These are simple, scientifically based practices which are easily ‘do able’’ which you may implement in your daily routine with excellent results and ensuring a more fulfilling life:

They really are simple practices with profound outcomes. How about giving it a go and seeing for yourself?


1 Practice Gratitude

It is easy for us to continue with our days on ‘autopilot’. Taking stock of our lives and being mindful of all which we are grateful and appreciative of really does make us happy.

An attitude of gratitude permits abundance and sweetens even the smallest moments. Afterall, it is not happiness that brings us gratitude though gratitude that brings us happiness.

You could use a gratitude app, write them in a journal, share them with a friend or simply think about it in your mind. This will help you cultivate a positive mindset and find joy in the littlest or bigger things in your life.


2 Practice Self – Care

A fulfilling life is dependant on self-care. Simply, you cannot life well and live wholeheartedly when you are not mentally and physically well. Ensuring that you have a minimum of 7 hours of sleep daily sets the tone and ability to focus on the essential and more.

Take time out to read a book, enjoy a warm bath, exercise, take care of your well-being. When you prioritise your well-being and needs you will be better at showing up for others.


3 Practice Mindfulness

Be present… live in the now. Take cognisance of your internal state and surrounding. Being mindful permits us to stay grounded in the moment without judgement. Mindfulness assists us to avoid destructive or automatic habits and responses by learning to observe our thoughts, emotion and other present moment experiences without reacting to them.

Mindfulness permits us greater awareness and to fully enjoy what life has to offer. It assists us with calming us down in stressful scenarios and minimizes and curtails our worries and anxieties.

You may perform these through breath work, meditation, yoga or just being more present from moment to moment.


4 Connect with others

We may enjoy our alone time, though undoubtedly, we are social creatures. People with strong social ties live longer and are known to be happier impacting positively on their physical wellbeing too.

So, make time each day to connect with friends, family and invest in cultivating healthy relationships either via a phone call, email, text or a visit.




5 Connect with Nature

Spending time in nature can be unbelievably restorative and grounding.

Go for a hike, walk in the park, sit in the sunlight (for 10 to 15 minutes). Breathe in the fresh air deeply and be aware of the sounds and sights around you in nature. This will connect you to the outside world, reduce your stress and aid your happiness.


6 Choose experiences and relationships over material items and possessions

Being caught up with consumerism has restricted many of us to pause and acknowledge that possessions and material things do not equate to our happiness. Perhaps its time to stop accumulating more items and invest in experiences, enjoyable activities, learn new skills and share in joyful experiences. In the long run you will be much more happy and fulfilled.


7 Be Disciplined in your Professional and Personal Life

Life is much more pleasurable and fulfilling when you temper them with discipline in your life. Discipline permits you to attain your desires, goals and achievements, do the right thing and routinely perform good habits to enhance your well-being, succeed and grow. Afterall, discipline permits you the ‘key’ ingredient for a fulfilled existence – the power over your life.


8 Express Kindness

Acts of kindness does not only make others feel good though enhances our own sense of self and well-being. There is something that expressing acts of kindness each day which permit greater sense of purpose and meaning. It may be a small gesture of kindness like holding a door open for a stranger, or more significant like donating or volunteering your time and efforts for a charitable cause. Regardless, you shall be impacting positively on another’s life thus enhancing your own.


9 Live in alignment with your values

Values differ in us all thus it is integral that we first define our values. Is it integrity, loyalty, responsibility etc? Regardless of the difference in us all, it is well known that living a life in alignment with our values permits us to feel more authentic, content, fulfilled and thus enhances our overall well-being.

10 Celebrate your accomplishments

No matter how small the wins are, make time to celebrate and pat yourself on the back. Life is challenging, we all have our own struggles and every time we overcome one, its cause for celebration.


11 Stay connected…though not too connected

Make plans, talk to strangers, call a friend, join a community group, go to meet ups. Connection is essential. Though here’s the caveat…You need to know when to disconnect too. In a modern, global world with access to 24-7 communication it is easy to fall into a trap. Social media, cell phones, email makes life easier in many ways though they can create stress without us being aware.

The dark side is that social media may lead us to compare, feel pressure and may stimulate a sense of isolation. Finding your own sweet spot and being mindful of the impact is essential to our well-being.
